A comedy of errors 3-5am....
• Must login to Gmail accounts every 24 months
• Posted to my old blog about my "new" linktr.ee
• My old blog is hosted on my highdefier Gmail
• My phone is logged into my blamer Gmail (uber)
• And I have a personal Gmail (my full legal name)
Google has become really confusing....
• Logging to Android phone (with Gmail account)
• Was not: Login to phone's Chrome web browser
Historically, I would usually use Blogger.com (as highdefier, or as blamer, or myself) by logging in via an Incognito browser. But that website has apparently been updated this year, because uploading an image was broken for me (now requires cookies). I have been using it since 2017
By using Chrome without incognito, somehow, i had logged myself in to Blogger.com (also owned by Google/Alphabet) and that also had added my highdefier account to my phone! It was slow to login, which i did think looked unusual. It showed spinning shapes, which i now know means i wasn't merely logging in to the Blogger website with my Gmail account. Nor merely my Chrome browser. It was adding that account to my phone!
Next, i saw the word "Default" next to highdefier, which felt unclear, ambiguous. I was concerned that the Uber app on my phone, who knows me as blamer (my phone's default Gmail) would now know me as highdefier! Was it saying default for Blogger.com, Chrome, or Android? I couldn't tell
(The app for Blogger.com only let's you login to 1 account at a time: Perhaps that's best next time!)
Then, went to search for help ("How to log out"). Google's results only made me more frustrated and confused. It showed suggestions like: How to log in, How to log out of somebody else's laptop, etc. It felt like my question had been answered by an unintelligent robot
Clearly, Google wishes accounts to never log out
Finally, i found the screen where to disconnect my old work Gmail from my phone, which appears to have worked: Phone settings. (Something i had been meaning to do for months and months.) That showed me that i was in the correct area for logging out highdefier too. I wish they called it logout or disconnect. It it stressful to tell Google to "Remove account" because all i want to do is disconnect not delete
I'm still not 100% convinced that everything is back that way it was yesterday. But at least i have logged into my highdefier Gmail account so my old blog doesn't get deleted ... simply because of their must-login-every-24-months rule
